Declaring the Impossible and Seeing God Move

How do we pray mountain-moving prayers? Here are two simple ideas to consider.

To pray prayers that shift the earth, we begin by sitting in God’s presence and listening to His voice.

That’s the first step for many things in life, and anybody can do it.

God speaks in about thirteen different ways. Some of the more “common” ways are dark sayings (mysterious things), dreams, pictures in our mind’s eye or imagination, a random comment made by a friend, prophecy, and the internal audible voice (His voice sounds like a thought).

One reason His voice is so magnetic is that He speaks to us through our own rhythms—in a “signature” way that is special to us. How does He manage to do this for 7 billion people all at once, spread across the globe? I scratch my head and have no idea, yet that’s what He does. The Spirit is capable of being uniquely beautiful with every single person.

So first we hear God’s voice in the special way He speaks to us. Then we start declaring what we heard Him say.

We speak aloud what God revealed to us.

“Lord, thank You for giving me this revelation and for telling me what You’re going to do. Your word is true. No word that goes forth from Your mouth will return void—it will succeed in the matter for which You sent it. I love what You’ve shown me and what You’re going to do! Even though this seems impossible to me, I am going to declare Your will because I know what You’ve said.”

Declare what He told you. “God, You showed my heart that You want to do this in my city: ________. So I declare that ________ will happen in my city.”

Declaration and contending usually go hand in hand.

God calls things that are not as though they were, so as His kids, we will frequently find ourselves in that place of “nothing but faith,” where we speak out something that doesn’t seem true in the natural. It isn’t happening—yet. It doesn’t exist—yet. But we know what He said, and we know what is just about to happen because He said it.

We don’t make declarations flippantly or without depth. This is war, and so we speak with wisdom and holiness. As we act in faith, taking God at His word, we will speak impossible things—and then get to watch as they come to pass.
